Printmaking

Before Winter Break, 2nd grade artists learned about printmaking. Printmaking can be practiced as  engraving, etching, drypoint, woodcut or serigraphy. 2nd graders started making bubble prints with a watercolor/soap mixture. Then, drew a special design on a separate piece of paper and engraved the design onto Styrofoam. They made sure to press hard enough when tracing their design to make the engraving lines deep enough.
In a separate art class, artists learned how to use a brayer (a small roller for inking),and ink to make their print. Artists pulled 4 prints from their Styrofoam design and printed it onto their bubble printed paper.
