2nd grade artists are learning about Pop art and creating a self-portrait on 12x18 paper. They watched a 22 minute movie on three Pop artists for inspiration: Wayne Thiebaud, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. We discussed appropriate proportions of the face: location of features, etc. and the children are doing an amazing job! After taking 1 1/2 classes to draw their self-portrait, children are tracing their portrait in black Sharpie.
Then, artists are using the Primary Colors to paint their self-portrait, but only painting the background 1 color, their hair a different color and their shirt the last color. When the paint is dry, the children will use skin color markers to add dots to the face just like famous artist Roy Lichtenstein. I will update pictures each week as we go...
